HILLIARD – The Ohio State University Extension – Franklin County hosted a Real Money. Real World
. financial literacy presentation today at Hilliard Memorial Middle School in Franklin County in partnership with the Ohio Treasurer’s office. A part of Treasurer Josh Mandel’s Financial EDge initiative, Real Money. Real World
(RMRW) helps to raise awareness on the importance of financial wellness and basic budgeting skills. Today’s RMRW was the first of three financial literacy presentations taking place at Hilliard City Schools in the coming weeks.
Real Money. Real Worl
d. is an interactive budget simulation that aims to prepare students for their financial futures by providing hands on experiences about the costs of living. Each student is assigned a spouse, children and occupation, and must manage a monthly salary to provide for their families. Students are then dealt various financial obligations similar to those they will face as adults, therefore requiring tough decisions and encouraging thoughtful discussion on how best to prioritize financial responsibilities.
Today’s financial literacy simulation was hosted by The Ohio State University Extension – Franklin County and facilitated in partnership with the Ohio Treasurer’s office, Hilliard City Schools and local volunteers.
“We are proud to partner with parents, educators and community leaders to bring financial education to our schools,” said Treasurer Mandel. “Learning basic budgeting and financial skills is crucial in preparing Ohio students for the next chapter of their lives.”
The Treasurer’s Financial EDge toolkit offers a suite of innovative resources to assist teachers in meeting financial education requirements. By leveraging technology and public-private partnerships, Financial EDge provides free financial education tools to help Ohioans make smart money choices.
