Treasurer Mandel Joins Third Smart Money Choices Conference in Lima
Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel’s Office hosted its third Smart Money Choices workshop of 2013 on Friday, July 26th in Lima. During the workshop, attendees heard presentations on various financial education and planning topics including budgeting, credit and debt, investments, retirement planning, student funding and consumer protection.
The Treasurer’s Office also offered an all-new educator resources course for 2013. Since Ohio law now requires students to receive personal finance education during their time in school prior to graduation, this all-new course was designed to assist teachers with the implementation of personal finance education requirements.
Treasurer Mandel joined in welcoming conference participants, and spoke of his plan to put the State’s Checkbook online. Open Ohio, also known as HB175, would allow Ohioans the opportunity to see how their money is being spent. This plan is a continuation of the Treasurer’s Transparency Project.
Smart Money Choices is a free, half-day financial planning workshop for all Ohioans, presented annually by the Ohio Treasurer’s Office, and supported by a variety of statewide and regional partners. The workshops are held throughout the state, which allows Ohio citizens the opportunity to hear from money management professionals on a variety of financial literacy topics to help them make more informed and knowledgeable decisions in their financial lives.
