Treasurer Sprague Announces March Compass Award Honorees

COLUMBUS – Treasurer Robert Sprague today announced Compass Award honorees for the month of March. The monthly recognition program commends organizations, programs, and individuals across the state who are working to guide Ohioans toward financial literacy and empowerment.

“It’s critical that students all across the Buckeye State are set up for success later in life,” said Treasurer Sprague. “With the Compass Award program, we’re honoring the people and organizations in Ohio who are leading our young people to a bright financial future through innovative and creative approaches.”

Compass Award honorees for March include:

  • YWCA Dayton (Montgomery County)
A crucial support for women in the Miami Valley, YWCA Dayton provides programs designed to improve financial literacy through personal fiscal responsibility and economic empowerment. As a valuable service to individuals who might not otherwise have the education or life experience in managing personal finance, courses include debt reduction, budgeting, credit card management, and planning savings.

  • The PAST Foundation (Franklin County)
Launched in 2000, the mission of the PAST Foundation is to aid educators in developing transformative learning strategies. The foundation has demonstrated success in setting students up for successful financial futures by focusing on career readiness. Additionally, the organization seeks to connect scientific research with classrooms, schools, and communities. Faculty members are anthropologists, researchers, and educators who are dedicated to improving education through transdisciplinary problem-based learning. The programming promotes STEM subjects through intense, but enjoyable methods.

  • Dr. Annalies Corbin, Founder, President & CEO of the PAST Foundation (Franklin County)
The PAST Foundation’s founder, Dr. Corbin is passionate about creating educational strategies that satisfy the learning needs of students while meeting the demands of Ohio’s ever-changing and growing workforce. Under her leadership, students are provided with hands-on learning opportunities aimed at preparing them to thrive in the modern workforce, which also leads to financial independence and success later in life. Dr. Corbin has also been influential in developing the “Girls Who Lead” project, which empowers young women to enter and become leaders in STEM fields, and the PAST Innovation Lab, which connects students directly with teachers through online professional development courses and on-site workshops.

Dr. Corbin was recently named to the 2020 Future 50 Class by Columbus CEO.
