Akron Beacon Journal: Two districts join program

Akron Beacon Journal

Two more local entities have joined Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel’s campaign to put the government’s checkbooks online.

The Stow-Munroe Falls and Cuyahoga Falls school districts are now part of, becoming the first two school districts in Summit County to take part in the transparency effort.

Mandel was joined at a ceremony in Stow by Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools Superintendent Tom Bratten, Treasurer Dave Osborne, school board members Gerry Bettio and Dave Licate, and former board member Ron Armstrong.

In Cuyahoga Falls, the announcement was jointly made by Treasurer Dave Hoskin, school board member Barbara Gunter and former school board member Kellie Patterson.

The Cuyahoga Falls school district’s online checkbook includes more than 194,000 individual transactions that represent more than $189 million of total spending over the past three fiscal years.

“I support because the public deserves to know where their money is being spent and also to be able to access it on their time, not the school district’s,” Gunter said.

Stow-Munroe Falls’ checkbook includes more than 90,000 individual transactions that represent more than $117 million of total spending over the past two fiscal years.

The website has “Google-style” contextual search capabilities, allowing users to sort by keyword, department, category or vendor.
