ZANESVILLE - The village of South Zanesville will be one of the first municipalities in the county to post its financial records online so residents can see how their tax dollars are being spent, according to the state treasurer's office.

Representatives from Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel's Office and South Zanesville officials will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the South Zanesville Administration Building to discuss the government transparency program. State officials have taken part in the program for a couple of years, and the treasurer's office office is encouraging local communities to voluntarily follow suit.

Chris Kerby, fiscal officer for South Zanesville, said the information will be launched online for public viewing Tuesday. The state will demonstrate how to use the website and available information.

"I think it's important to the people of the village," Kerby said. "That way, they can see where the money's being spent."

Ohio's Online Checkbook,, was launched in 2014 under Mandel. According to the website, state spending is updated monthly. Credit card purchases are available for viewing and a full list of expenditures can be downloaded.
