Findlay Courier: Vanlue joins online checkbook program

Findlay Courier
November 4, 2016

VANLUE — Vanlue has become the first village in Hancock County to post its spending on OhioCheckbook.com, the Ohio Treasurer’s online checkbook.

The village’s participation in the program was announced Thursday during a press conference at the village hall attended by the Ohio Treasurer’s office and Vanlue Fiscal Officer Dan Caudill.

Vanlue’s online checkbook includes over 4,200 individual transactions that represent more than $1.5 million of total spending over the past six years, according to a news release issued by the Ohio Treasurer’s office.

“The village of Vanlue is proud to join others in Hancock County as leaders in transparency,” said Caudill in the news release. “We are excited to use the checkbook tool provided by the treasurer’s office to help our local government make more efficient decisions.”

In December 2014, Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel launched the OhioCheckbook.com, which puts all state spending information on the internet.

“I believe the people of Hancock County have a right to know how their tax money is being spent, and I applaud local leaders here for partnering with my office to post the finances on OhioCheckbook.com,” said Mandel. “By posting local government spending online, we are empowering taxpayers across Ohio to hold public officials accountable.”
