Treasurer Mandel's 2016 Annual Report Highlights Transparency Movement Empowering Ohioans

COLUMBUS - Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel announced today the release of his Fiscal Year 2016 Annual Report highlighting the work being done to make government more transparent and open to the people. 

"Since taking the oath as Ohio Treasurer in 2011, I'm proud that the work we have accomplished over the past six years has earned the trust of Ohioans," said Treasurer Mandel.  "By launching OhioCheckbook.com and posting government spending online, we are empowering taxpayers across Ohio to hold public officials accountable."

The report also highlights how Treasurer Mandel has:

Earned Ohio the #1 government spending transparency ranking in the country for the second year in a row, climbing from 46th to 1st as a result of the launch of OhioCheckbook.com according to the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG);
Created transparency partnerships with almost 1,000 Ohio local governments and schools to place their spending information online at OhioCheckbook.com;
Launched a historic partnership with Ohio's five statewide pension funds to place their checkbook level spending information online at OhioCheckbook.com; 
Announced partnerships with the Presidents of Bowling Green State University, Central State University, Miami University, Ohio University and Wright State University as the first public universities in the state to agree to post their checkbook level expenditures on OhioCheckbook.com;
Partnered with Ohio Auditor Dave Yost to create a partnership between OhioCheckbook.com and the Auditor's Uniform Accounting Network (UAN); 
Leveraged technology by partnering with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles to accept credit cards as an option for payment at Deputy Registrars;
Launched STABLE Accounts which are the nation's first savings and investment accounts for people with disabilities.
